Numerical Investigation of Sediment Flushing and Morphological Changes in Tamsui River Estuary through Monsoons and Typhoons

The removal of reservoir silt and the restoration existing capacities through land excavation hydraulic sediment flushing have become necessary. Hydraulic discharge changes flow conditions downstream river channel. In Tamsui River estuary in Taiwan, from Shihmen upstream has potential impacts on morphology navigation channels adjacent coasts. This study employed a validated coastal estuarine processes model to investigate: (1) influence tidal levels morphological during flood flushing-discharge operations reservoir, (2) differences between monsoon typhoon seasons. prediction was carried out by simulating hydrodynamic morphodynamic under multi-year synthetic combined northeast three historical events. simulation results reveal that operation when peak reaches section at ebb tides, more can be transported open sea than tides.
